What does Organic mean?
Organic farming means farming in a way that cares for the environment and livestock, without using synthetic chemicals and other unnatural approaches. Organic beef and lamb is raised Free Range on pasture from start to finish.
What does Free Range mean?
Free Range farming means the animals have been raised in a humane manner where they are free to exhibit their natural behaviors. Cleaver’s Free Range Pork is certified as Free Range across the entire life cycle including breeding, weaning and growing.
Is Organic also Free Range?
Yes, Organic is also Free Range. A common misconception is that Organic does not necessarily mean Free Range, however the Australian Certified Organic body requires livestock to be Free Range as part of the Organic certification standard.
What are the standards for ACO Certified Organic meat?
Below are some of the things which are required for our beef and lamb to be assured as Australian Certified Organic.
- Raised free range
- Practice stress free weaning
- Be fed on organic pastures and supplements
- No use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides
- Not administered growth hormones
- Farms are audited annually to make sure they comply with organic standards
What are the standards for APIQ Certified Free Range pork?
In order to comply with APIQ Free Range certification our all weaners, growers and sows must be raised according to the following standards;
- Have permanent unrestricted access to the outdoors
- Provided with shelter from the elements furnished with bedding
- Have areas to root, forage and wallow
- Always have access to fresh clean water and food
- Are are handled in compliance with the Australian Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals
What are the health benefits of organic grass fed meat?
- No chemical residues
- No GMOs
- No added hormones
- No antibiotics
According to The Mayo Clinic, when compared to other types of beef, Organic grass fed beef may have;
- More heart healthy Omega-3 fatty acids
- Less total fat
- More antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E
- More conjugated linoleic acid, a type of fat that’s thought to reduce heart disease and cancer risks
Are Cleaver’s products Halal?
Cleaver’s Organic and Free Range products are not Halal.
How do I know Cleaver’s is organic?
Look for the Australian Organic bud logo. All our Certified Organic beef and lamb products carry the Australian Certified Organic bud logo which tells you that our product has been approved by Australia’s leading organic certification body. How do I know Cleaver’s is Free Range?

What do the animals eat?
Our cattle and sheep are all grass fed from start to finish, with access to sunlight and fresh clean water. You can read more about Cleaver’s Grass Fed Beef Standards here.
Our pigs eat a special nutritionally optimized diet designed to mimic what wild pigs would naturally eat. This ration consists of some grains, legumes, roughage, vitamins and minerals. The pigs diet is supplemented through foraging in the field.

We source livestock predominantly from the eastern states of Australia. You can read more about some of our farms here.
Is the packaging recyclable?
Our rigid plastic trays can be recycled and so can our cardboard sleeves. We encourage our customers to please recycle where ever possible.
